LG X120 shows up at the MWC

LG Electronics announced a new Netbook at the GSMA Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona. The LG-X120 is the successor to the LG-X110. As with all newer generation netbooks, the LG-X120 includes integrated 3G HSPA connection, and a 'Smart-On' interface (which basically boots up frequently used applications within seconds after hitting the power-on button).

The netbook is expected to come in white, and with a lime or pink outer detail, with a matt surface cover. Specs-wise, it's not going to much different from current crops of netbooks, so most of the differences will be software and design.

CNET Asia reports the netbook is expected to arrive in Singapore in Q2 of this year.

MSI Wind U120 in Grey/Black color scheme

The original black and white color scheme MSI WIND U120 is now available in gray and black, and more sober outer scheme.

This new casing would definitely appeal more to the business and enterprise markets which MSI originally suggested this netbook variant was aimed at.

Specifications wise, it's pretty much standard netbook specs, so I won't bother to list them. Its reported that this new variant has started to sell in the US market.

Acer Aspire ONE D150 hands on video

netbooknews.de posted a pretty good first-take hands-on video for the new Acer Aspire ONE D150. The D150 is a 10-inch version of the best-selling first generation Aspire ONE. Specs-wise, it's pretty standard netbook specs, so there's nothing different there.

According to reviewer, he's not super-excited about this new release from Acer, the unit feels 'cheap', the keyboard is not exactly good for a 2nd generation netbook, and Acer should know better that 2009 would be stiff competition, but has failed to release a worthy successor to the 2008 Aspire ONE.

Anyway, check out the video...

HP Mini 2140 hitting the stores today.

If you were disappointed when HP released the plastic Mini 1000 successor to the aluminium-clad HP Mini 2133, the wait is over.

The HP Mini 2140 will be hitting the stores in Singapore today, with the rest of Asia getting theirs very soon. The basic configuration with Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 120GB storage and Windows XP Home Edition goes for S$799.

At this price, not only will it appeal to the style conscious consumers and business users, coupled with nearly full-sized keyboard and ExpressCard/54 slot, would make the HP Mini 2140 an excellent buy.

Check it out at the your local stores now.

Samsung NC10 with touchscreen?

No, Samsung is not launching a new version of the NC10 with touchscreen capbility, but that shouldn't stop you from modifying your NC10 to include a touchscreen. That's exactly what the folks over at netbookmag.com did.

Watch this video of the touchscreen in action.

CES 2009: Sony Vaio P netbook, an expensive accessory

CES 2009 is here again, and with it the unveiling of the Sony's entry to the netbook scene. The world’s lightest 8" notebook is here, and please, don't call it a netbook, insists the Sony guys.

It comes with Intel Atom 1.33Ghz processor (note, not the usual 1.6Ghz version found in most netbooks), 2GB RAM, up to 60GB of HDD or the pricier 128GB SSD, and it's installed with Windows Vista Premium or Home, depending which version you pick. It comes with 4 unique colors, built in GPS, and oozes the Sony style.

But beware, this style comes with a typical Sony hefty price tag. Starting from US$899, to as much as US$1499! At that price, you can deck yourself our with a super-duper full-scale notebook.

Anyway, only time will tell if Sony will capture the hearts and minds of the Sony fanbase or it has priced itself out of the market, especially in these bad times.

Personally, I don't think it justifies shelling out US$899 (which is like S$1400) for the Sony Vaio P, no matter how stylish or portable it is. But that's just me. You decide.

Check out the official Sony Vaio P website. Or how about some great pictures of the Sony Vaio P, and a first look/hands on of the Vaio P.

Netbooks running Google Android? Can't be!

Yeap, it's 2009, and happy new year to all! The new year starts with news about a couple of guys, Matthäus Krzykowski and Daniel Hartmann, over at VentureBeat who successfully grafted Google Android onto an Asus EEEPC 1000H; and it took them only 4 hours to do so.

"Here’s the significance: Imagine the billion dollar market at stake here if Google can make good on this vision. Netbooks are basically small-scale PCs. For Silicon Valley myriad of software companies, it means a well-backed, open operating system that is open and ripe for exploitation for building upon. Now think of Chrome, Google’s web browser, and the richness it allows developers to build into the browser’s relationship with the desktop — all of this could usher in a new wave of more sophisticated web applications, cheaper and more dynamic to use. Ramifications abound: What does it mean for the stock price of Microsoft? Microsoft currently owns the vast majority of the desktop operating system market share? In recent weeks, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer repeatedly dismissed Android as competition to Windows Mobile."

Gateway LT1001g selling $688 at Megatex

The Gateway LT1001g is now available for $688 at the Megatex event at the Expo. This is also the same price as the Acer Aspire One, not surprising since they are effectively the same machine.

However, I did see the LT1001g at Funan yesterday, and it was selling at $688 too, so you don't have to trek all the way to the Expo. The LT1001g definitely looks more "business", with its black and grey design scheme. So if you're looking for an Aspire One equivalent, check you the Gateway edition, you might like it better.

LG X110 and MSI Wind U100 at Carrefour Singapore

Carrefour Singapore is carrying the MSI, LG, Asus and Lenovo netbooks.

The MSI Wind is going for S$748, with 1GB RAM and 6-cell battery.

The LG X110 is going for $799.

Although the LG is a re-modelled MSI Wind, I do like the look of the LG X110, the design lines is just that bit nicer than the MSI Wind.

Go check them out.
